Privacy policy

We collect as little as we can to run an anonymous chat service safely.

What we collect

  • Your profile: a random name and emoji, your confirmation that you are 18 or older, the gender you choose, and optionally the languages you chat in, your interests, state and city.
  • If you buy Premium: the amount, date and Razorpay order and payment IDs. Razorpay processes the payment; we never see your card, UPI or bank details.
  • If you save your account: your email address, or your Google account ID and email.
  • Safety data: a random device ID stored in a cookie, and a keyed hash of the IP address you signed up from. We never store your raw IP address.
  • Friend chats: messages, GIFs, voice notes and photos you send to friends are stored so you can read them later.
  • Reports: when someone is reported, the last few messages of that chat are stored for our moderators.

What we don't collect

  • Chats with strangers are never saved, unless the chat is reported.
  • Stranger voice notes and photos are passed through in memory and never stored.
  • We don't collect your phone number, contacts or precise location.
  • We don't sell your data.

How we use it

To match you with other people, deliver messages, keep the service safe (moderation, bans, preventing abuse), let you log back in, and send friend notifications if you turn them on.

Service providers

We host on Amazon Web Services in India. Login codes are emailed through Google's Gmail service, and photos are checked for harmful content with Amazon Rekognition. GIF search is provided by GIPHY. If you sign in with Google, Google shares your account ID and email with us.

How long we keep it

  • Friend chats: until either of you removes the other, which deletes the chat for both of you.
  • Reports and moderation records: as long as needed to keep the service safe.
  • Login codes: deleted within a day.

Your choices

You can edit your profile, remove friends, turn notifications off, and log out of all devices at any time. To delete your account and data, or for any privacy question, email grievance@strangeryaar.in.

Cookies

We only use cookies needed to run the service: one to keep you logged in and one device ID for safety. No advertising or tracking cookies.
